We are The Sameritan Project, a 501(c)(3) public systems lab testing solutions before adoption to impact our daily lives.
Join us for a hands-on Tech for Good Hackathon focused on building practical solutions to real challenges facing communities, organizations, and cities. Rather than starting with a technology and looking for somewhere to use it, we'll start with the problem. Participants will be presented with a set of real-world challenges and opportunities sourced from community organizations, civic initiatives, and other partners. From there, teams will bring their technical, design, data, product, and creative skills to develop solutions that could move beyond the hackathon and into the real world. Challenges may include areas such as food systems, civic infrastructure, climate and energy, community resilience, and the upcoming LA28 ecosystem. One potential challenge, for example, is developing tools to better route and coordinate resources across a fragmented network of organizations — a problem that becomes increasingly important as Los Angeles prepares for major events like the 2027 Super Bowl and 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Whether you're a software engineer, data scientist, designer, product thinker, researcher, or someone with a different technical or creative skillset, you'll have the opportunity to collaborate with others, work directly on a defined problem, and build a tangible prototype.
