‐Japan’s $2.1 Trillion Strategic Investment Opportunity: Where Japan’s National and Tokyo Leadership Meet Global VCs and Startups-
This event aims to serve as a bridge between the startup ecosystems of Japan and the US.
The program includes a ministerial address by The Honorable Minoru Kiuchi, the Cabinet Minister responsible for Japan’s Growth Strategy and startup policy, together with special remarks from the Director General of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government’s Startup Strategy Promotion Headquarters.
This summer, the Japanese government announced a target of mobilizing ¥340 trillion—approximately $2.1 trillion—in combined public and private investment across 17 strategic sectors, including AI, robotics, healthcare, advanced materials, and content.
The national government and the Tokyo Metropolitan Government are working in coordination to expand commitments to venture funds, encourage direct investment in startups, and promote strategic public procurement.
At the same time, Japanese companies have accumulated approximately ¥600 trillion, or $3.8 trillion, in retained earnings. Unlocking this capital means creating more opportunities for Japanese companies to make strategic investments, co-develop new technologies, and pursue M&A.
Representatives from leading Japanese companies across telecommunications, insurance, banking, manufacturing, and energy are also expected to attend. Many of these companies are actively exploring investments and partnerships in Japan’s strategic growth sectors.
For VCs and founders, this creates concrete opportunities to access Japanese capital, major corporate customers, industrial partners, public-sector programs, and world-class technologies.
A bridge creates value when capital, customers, technology, and talent move across it in both directions. That is exactly what we aim to make happen through this event.
