The Sunset Neighborhood Build-a-thon is a neighborhood kickoff to building what we need with neighbors, out where the avenues meet the ocean.
This is an invitation for Tech Week participants and friends of the neighborhood!
On Wednesday afternoon, while the rest of SF Tech Week is downtown, the Outer Sunset is trying something new. Neighbors will pitch dreams and projects (e.g. a community garden, a babysitting co-op, dreams gathered from beloved local small businesses), form teams, and start building the artifacts each project needs first: a flyer, a landing page, an outreach plan, a working first version of software meeting a need in our neighborhood.
It's a commencement, not a competition! At 5pm we'll share brief first notes and ideas over food from Sunset spots and celebrate what's begun. Then the building will keep going as part of life here: a builder club with regular meetups, microgrants for neighbor gatherings, and more dreams turning into projects we work on together.
Come as a guest of the neighborhood: join a team for the afternoon, lend a skill, or arrive at 5 for the shares and celebration. No tech background needed, but tech experience is welcome. If you organize, build, or fund things where you live, this format might be something you can remix in your neighborhood.
This listing is for visitors and friends: your optional contribution ($20 suggested and we appreciate all support) goes to Sunset vendors, the neighborhood hall, and microgrants for neighbor gatherings.
