VC + Founder Sailing
We are excited to be hosting a sunset cruise in the beautiful San Francisco Bay for VCs and Founders for SF tech week!
This is meant as an intimate way to get to know other investors and founders as well as get out on the water (and call it work). No sailing experience required. We will teach anyone who would like to learn a little while we're out there. Weather in October is usually beautiful so we should be in for a stunning view.
The event is sponsored by Wells Fargo Strategic Capital and a16z. Wells Fargo Strategic Capital is an investor making $5-$30M investments in growth stage companies. The event is hosted by Oliver Spalding, an investor at WFSC and a Lecturer at The Wharton School and James da Costa, Partner at a16z.
We will bring snacks and some drinks on board. We will be going out on a beautiful chartered Jenneau Sun Odyssey. There is a bathroom, fridge, and kitchen on board. We will be leaving out of Pier 39 (Fisherman's Wharf) from 5:30-7pm on Tuesday October 7th.
Capacity is 10 people.
For logistics, I will communicate with everyone about the weather but always smart to bring a warm jacket (windbreaker and fleece just in case is recommended). Please remember to wear non-marking shoes (black soles to be avoided).
We are excited to have you out!

This intimate gathering will also debut the Villa Kitchen Passport, our 2026 membership program granting access to exclusive dinners across multiple cities. Designed for founders, investors, and cultural innovators, the event reimagines how technology, equity, and hospitality intersect to shape the future of travel dining.
Supporting in spirit are Wafâa Maadnous and Vandana Hart, who will also help guide our 2026 Supper Club calendar—a series of intentionally themed dinners in chosen cities and sourced by BIPOC farms.

Start your LA Tech Week on the right note.
This event will explore the idea that human judgment is the last moat in a world where algorithms can be copied, datasets shared, and most tools look all the same.
Dr. Garrett Pendergraft, Blanche E. Seaver Professor of Philosophy at Pepperdine University, will join governance expert Vera Cherepanova, Executive Director of Boards of the Future, to unpack how human responsibility protects value, mitigates risk, and differentiates companies in the eyes of investors and boards.
The program will begin with a short talk framing today’s key ethical challenges in AI, governance, and autonomy, followed by an interactive conversation with the audience and networking.
Topics include:
• The AI “responsibility gap”: who is liable when things go wrong?
• How can founders and boards preserve human agency while scaling automation?
• How do we build tech that preserves human dignity and agency?
• Turning “human-in-the-loop” from compliance cost to competitive edge.
Schedule:
• 4:30 pm – Arrivals with refreshments
• 5:00–6:15 pm – Program + interactive conversation
• 6:15–6:45 pm – Networking reception at Malibu sunset
