Most data events are just people talking at you from a stage. We're doing something different.
This is practitioner-led:
no agenda until you make one,
no slide decks,
just data engineers and builders figuring stuff out together.
⚙️ How it works: ⚙️
1️⃣ We start in one room.
2️⃣ Everyone throws problems or ideas on sticky notes.
3️⃣ Vote on what's interesting.
4️⃣ Split into groups.
5️⃣ Discuss and share ideas.
6️⃣ Come back, share what we learned, then grab drinks.
The agenda is whatever the room brings.
💡 People have already mentioned:
- Getting CI/CD and testing into data work without everything grinding to a halt.
- What collaboration actually looks like when your whole team goes code-first?
- Balancing speed vs quality when your pipeline is your product.
- What does AI exactly mean for the future of our field?
🎯 Why this matters:
- Data teams are becoming more like engineering teams.
- Engineering teams are doing more data stuff.
- Nobody's figured out the best way to do this yet.
👤 Who should come:
Data engineers, analytics engineers, tech leads, and anyone building stuff at the intersection of code and data.
❓Why bother:
Because the conversations that actually help happen over whiteboards with people who've been in the same mess you're in right now.
Space is tight. RSVP or you're out of luck.

AI will change what we do at work, but it may also impact the 'why' of work - purpose, growth, impact, and meaning. This session dives into the 150-year history of the changing ‘why’ of work (and marriage, too!), including how the unprecedented uncertainty from AI and macroeconomic stressors is rocking our boats and ushering in a new era of growth through transformational change. As AI takes over task execution, the real value of human workers lies elsewhere in creating meaning, navigating ambiguity, fostering alignment, and leading through uncertainty. But how do we get through this transformation, and what, specifically, is on the other side?
We’ll discuss how organizations can navigate the massive disruption of AI adoption and ultimately redefine, reinvent, and reimagine “work.”

Interesting things happen outside the local machine comfort zone, so let's meet and discuss what happens when AI dev-tools meet messy, mission-critical code at scale.
This mixer + mini-panel is about turning AI speed into safe, team-level delivery.
- AI Dev-Tools: how to search across huge repos, makes coding agents understands your project, and set up simple, repeatable LLM workflows and quality checks.
- Code Migration at Scale: choosing a migration path, automating safe refactors, building pipelines, and automate the boring bits.
We want a real conversation - what’s worked (and what hasn’t!) for cutting trust debt, using spec-first habits to make delivery predictable and reviews calm, and adding lightweight checks/guardrails that keep the “vibe” speed without the chaos. Bring your wins, scars, and questions.
We’re explicitly looking to discuss the “beyond individual contributor” side: scalable code changes, design governance, quality gates, migration guardrails, and project context management. On top of that, we’ll cover LLM-aware practices at the org level. So if this is your scope of responsibility/interest, you’ll feel at home.
Bonus: After the official tech presentations - we’re going to celebrate VirtusLab’s 15-year anniversary - come raise a toast! The event will be in a legendary THE BOX SF Venue, with open bar for everyone.

Kick off your Tech Week evening with Reka! Join us for an interactive session where developers and builders will get hands-on with multimodal agents in a focused workshop, followed by an early happy hour mixer.
We’ll dive into how Reka’s latest tools can power real-world workflows, then shift gears to casual networking over drinks and bites, with fellow devs, founders, and partners.
Designed as a pre-game to the busy Tech Week nights, this 4–7 pm gathering gives you the best of both worlds: learn something new, connect with the community over drinks and light bites, and still make it to your evening plans (we know how exciting things can get during the #SFTechWeek)
This event is a part of #SFTechWeek, a week of events hosted by VCs and startups to bring together the tech ecosystem. Learn more at www.tech-week.com.
Optional: Bring your own laptop if you’d like to follow along during the workshop. We’ll walk through building simple multimodal agents together, and having your own device means you can try the tools live, experiment with prompts, and leave with something you built yourself. If you prefer to just watch the demos and enjoy the conversation, that works too!
