Workshop Brief: Building the AI Credit & Metering Engine

Hosted and powered by Metrifox

The Objective

Move beyond the theory of usage-based pricing. In this 90-minute session, we are building the actual infrastructure for AI monetization. We will strip away the buzzwords to have an honest conversation about the trade-offs of credits, and then we will build a working model of your pricing.

The Outcome: By the end of this session, you will have a live version of your pricing model running in Metrifox, ready to be implemented in your product.

Agenda

1. The Honest Truth: Credits, Good & Bad (20 Minutes)

We skip the sales pitch. Credits are the standard for AI, but they are rarely simple.

· Why Credits Win: Decoupling token costs from user-facing pricing; creating a universal currency for heterogeneous models (LLMs, GPUs, API calls); enabling prepayment. · The Pitfalls: The "Float" problem (unused credits), the complexity of expiration logic, and the UX nightmare of "running out" mid-task. · The Complexity: How to handle margin volatility when your underlying inference costs change but your credit price is fixed.

2. The Mechanics: Top-ups, Enforcement & Migration (20 Minutes)

A deep dive into the operational reality of credits.

· Top-ups & Auto-recharge: Strategies for seamless balance refills and dunning management. · Enforcement: How to gracefully handle limits. Do you hard-stop the API? Do you throttle? Do you notify? We discuss the logic behind the "Paywall vs. Friction" decision. · The Migration: How to move legacy seat-based or flat-rate users to a credit model without churn. The "Grandfathering" vs. "Forced Migration" playbook.

3. The Build: Metrifox Modeling Workshop (40 Minutes)

Bring your laptop. This is a hands-on build.

· Modeling: Translate your pricing sheet into Metrifox logic. Define features, plans, and credit consumption rules. · Simulation: Test how your model behaves under load. What happens when a user hits 0 credits? How does a top-up propagate? · Implementation: Walk away with the API keys and schema required to push this live into your app.

4. Q&A & Architecture Review (10 Minutes)

Open floor for Metrifox engineers and billing experts to review your specific edge cases.

Who is this for?

· Founders: To understand the financial and strategic implications of your pricing model. · Product Managers: To design the UX flow for credit consumption and top-ups. · Engineers: To understand the implementation of metering, entitlements, and enforcement.

The Deliverable

A functional pricing model in Metrifox that supports usage-based billing, configured and ready for production.
